The essence of genius
According to William James, The essence of genius is to know what to overlook.
Sometimes you have to let go of things that aren’t the most important. Sometimes you have to decide that to maintain this standard, other standards can be taken down a notch.
To me the question isn’t what you should prioritise. It’s what you should de-prioritise in order to build capacity to focus on the really important things. So being less involved with sticking labels on boxes so you can be more involved with ensuring patients know how to use their inhaler.
Don’t sweat the small stuff, said someone who failed to realise that patient care wasn’t small stuff. Or as a top clinical pharmacist said: when spinning plates work out which are wedgewood and which are ikea.

Morale Officer
Things are tense in our Pharmacy. Morale is on the floor, resources are low. I have made the decision to be a pharmacist leader and appointed myself Morale Officer for the pharmacy.
Just like Arnold Rimmer, a leader with whom I share many traits, and I hope this blog will be placed alongside the groundbreaking biographies of icons of history as ‘Napoleon’s War Diaries’, ‘The Memories of Julius Caesar’ and Paul Burrell’s “A Royal Duty”.
